Carolyn Sue (Shepard) Gunckle, of Middletown, went home to be with her Lord on November 20, 2017. She was born on July 12, 1949 in Middletown to John and Alma Shepard. She married Marvin R. Gunckle on November 8, 1974. He preceded her in death in 2010 after 35 years of marriage. Carolyn spent 20 years as secretary to Commercial Realtor James A. Beatty. In 1990, she started a career with the Middletown City School District that spanned multiple roles and nearly three decades. She touched the lives of both students and staff with her laughter, proficiency at her job, and most of all her selfless understanding heart. She struggled for seven years to have children and cherished her family but also provided comfort and empathy to anyone who needed it. She retired in 2015 and enjoyed getting to see Paul McCartney twice and spending more time with her children and grandchildren before being diagnosed with small intestine cancer in 2016. Carolyn was a lifelong member of the Grand Avenue/Towne Church and treasured her church family through the years. Her family wishes to extend their gratitude to the entire staff of the Hospice of Southwest Ohio, Dr. Radhika Rajsheker and staff of the Compton Ctr., staff at CVS Breiel, Dr. Gary Cobb, and Dr. Martin Walsh for the excellent care they provided Carolyn and family. Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother-in-law, Todd Gunckle; and nephews Gary and Michael Koogle. Carolyn is survived by her brother, John (Barbara) Shepard; devoted children, Stacey Gunckle and Brad (Shannon) Gunckle; and grandchildren Hannah and Braden. She is also survived by many loving family members.  A visitation will be held Monday, November 27, 2017, from 11-2 pm at Towne Church on Towne Blvd, Middletown, with the funeral following at 2 pm with Pastor Mark Jackson officiating. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.bakerstevensparramore.com
