Gordon Lawson

LAWSON, Reverend Gordon L. 89, moved from this earth to his heavenly home on January 14th in Middletown, OH. Rev. Lawson was born on November 7, 1928, in Middletown, the son of Clifford and Jenny (Cox) Lawson. On February 18, 1955, he married Zella Bernice Ellison of Crab Orchard, KY and they were happily married for 62 years. Rev. Lawson graduated from Middletown High School in 1947 and from the University of Valley Forge (class of 1956). He was an attendee of the Full Gospel Tabernacle. Following graduation, Rev. Lawson evangelized in Ohio and Kentucky, eventually pioneering an Assemblies of God Church in Wilmington, OH. He was employed by Inland Container and Aker’s Packaging. He planted a new church, Grace Pentecostal Assembly, on September 7, 1968. After 18 years of continuous ministry, Grace Pentecostal Assembly, under the leadership of Rev. Lawson, merged with Christian Assembly of God, Middletown. Reverend Lawson retired from vocational ministry in November 1993, but continued to serve others with the message and love of Christ and was an attendee of Stratford Heights Church of God. Reverend Lawson is survived by his beloved wife, Zella Lawson of Middletown; sons, Jonathan Lawson (Patrice) of Yorkville, IL, Mark Lawson (Heidi) of Middletown, OH; grandchildren, Olivia Lawson of Tampa, FL, David Lawson of Yorkville, IL, and Holly Lawson of Middletown, OH; brother, Ronald Lawson (Frieda) of Middletown, OH. Rev. Lawson was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Artie Wallace, Exie Daniels, and Mildred Neff (Mickey), brothers, Clifford Jr. (Jack) Gary, Arnold, and Raymond (Ray) Lawson. Visitation will be held at the Baker-Stevens-Parramore Funeral Home, 6850 Roosevelt Avenue, Middletown, OH 45005 on Friday, January 19th between the hours of 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A celebration of Reverend Lawson’s life will be held Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the Stratford Heights Church of God, at 11:00 a.m. located at 4419 Nelson Road, Middletown, OH 45042.
