American Veteran 04

Darrel Kendrick

April 29, 1948 ~ August 27, 2021 (age 73) 73 Years Old

Obituary

Darrel Ray Kendrick of Carlisle, OH died on Friday, August 27, 2021 at the age of 73. He passed with his children at his side and into the glory of Heaven, reunited with his wife and daughter and into the presence of the Lord.

Darrel was a man of great character and honor. At age 19, he was drafted into the Army and served in the Vietnam War. Following his discharge, he remained patriotic and enjoyed attending veteran’s meetings, appreciating the comradery of those who’d also served. He also participated in the Honor Flight, an experience honoring veterans in DC, in 2015.

Though he described his earlier years as “wild,” Darrel eventually accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and lived the rest of his life committed to Christian living and service. He was dedicated to his home church and served faithfully as a volunteer lay pastor at Mary Scott Nursing Home for many years, providing weekly Sunday morning church services for residents. He was known to be a man of exhortation and prayer, and he studied his Bible daily.

Darrel was also the epitome of a family man. He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife, Priscilla, for 44 years. He was the father of nine children and the grandfather of 15. He worked for several companies throughout his life, including NCR and Hamilton Fixture before eventually retiring from F&G Tool and Die in 2014. He was a hard worker and good employee as he provided for his family. Darrel enjoyed time with his loved ones, regardless of how that time was spent. He liked being outdoors, camping and fishing, or even just observing his surroundings. He always had a story to tell, often with many details. He was mechanically inclined and had a natural instinct for how things worked and how to build. He could fix anything, though maybe not in the traditional way. Perhaps the way in which he tinkered is the best analogy for his life: outside of the normal expectations, but his dedication made everything special and remarkable.

Darrel is survived by his children: Christina (Keith) Reece of Mansfield; Jared (Katie) Kendrick of St. Louis, MO; Brant (Brittany) Kendrick of Monroe; Nathan Kendrick of NYC, NY; Gloria (Ross) Frank of Miamisburg; Violet (Joel) Ponting of West Plains, MO; Valerie (Logan) Whitacre of Granite City, IL and Evan Kendrick of Carlisle and his brother, Perry (Tina) Kendrick of Middletown Grandchildren: Tyler, Ava, Miya, Juil, Callie, Felicity, Annie, London, Brittain, Wyatt, Asher, William, Arwen, Waylon, and Max. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Priscilla Kendrick, daughter Tabitha Kendrick, parents Earl and Laura Kendrick, brother Gary Kendrick, brother Harvey Kendrick, granddaughter Robin Ponting, granddaughter Mercy Whitacre, sister-law in- Rebecca Roberts, and niece Katie Roberts.
