Obituary

Gerald (Jerry) Pratt passed peacefully on Christmas Eve in Westlake, Ohio. Jerry was born in 1930 in Middletown, where he lived all but the final year of his life. He is survived by his son, Scott Pratt, daughter-in-law Lisa Pratt, and his two granddaughters: Leeann Pratt and Taylor Pratt, all of Westlake, OH; his daughter Beth Pratt-Dewey and son-in-law Robert Dewey of Bethesda, MD and a granddaughter, Jenn Dewey of New York, NY.  Jerry will be remembered as a kind and loving man with an active sense of humor and love for dogs— core characteristics that remained with him until his last days. He worked his entire career at Jefferson Smurfit Paper.  He served in the US Naval Reserves prior to Smurfit. He was a skilled carpenter, creating much of the cabinetry in his home. His gardening skills kept flowers blooming for three seasons every year. His family will remember his love for Christmas and his knack for holiday decorations. He was a dedicated Light Up Middletown volunteer as a member of the Grandpa Gang and enjoyed working with crews in the fall and spring to assemble and disassemble the decorations. Jerry was preceded in death by his wife Wanda, to whom he was devoted, in health and sickness, for over 50 years. He will be entombed next to her at Woodside Cemetery in Middletown. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Loren Jr., Alan (Pete), and Don Pratt and sisters-in-law, Ellen and Dorothy. He is survived by his sister-in-law Phyllis Pratt. Visitation will be held Saturday, December 29, 2018 from 9:30 to 11:00 am  at Woodside Cemetery Chapel in Middletown. A chapel service will be held following visitation at 11:00 am. He will be entombed at Woodside Cemetery after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Light Up Middletown. Www.lightupmiddletown.org. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.bakerstevensparramore.com.
