Obituary

James Stuart Stallings, 94, of Cincinnati, OH, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 25, 2020. He was born January 29, 1926 in Monterrey, Mexico, the son of Stuart Harrison and Margaret C. (née Stallings) Levison. Jim was born in Mexico while his father was posted there as a mining engineer. He graduated early from Kent School in Kent, CT to enter the U.S. Navy V12 program during World War II. He completed his Engineering degree at Yale University in three years in the accelerated effort to provide the Navy with young qualified officers. He was captain of the Yale Swim Team and enjoyed swimming his entire life. Upon discharge and graduation, he moved to Cincinnati and embarked on a 25 year career with Procter & Gamble. His engineering skills were utilized in many ways, but perhaps the most important was working to advance manufacturing to comply with new environmental standards as environment awareness grew in the 1970’s and 1980’s. He also served on the board of Lennox Savings and Loan as a way to contribute to the well-being of other P&G employees. He retired early to care for his beloved Janet as her health declined in the late 1980’s. He was an avid fly fisherman who loved the challenge and communion with nature. His trips to Idaho and Alaska were a rare respite from the tireless care for his wife. Jim also enjoyed golf and his time at Maketewah Country Club. He was an involved member of Knox Presbyterian Church for many years, contributing his time and energy in numerous leadership roles. Jim was an animal lover and is now enjoying time with Ginger, Ben, Toby, Bob, Sam, Shadow and Chloe. He was very interested in his daughter’s work as a docent at the Columbus Zoo. His time at Twin Lakes in Montgomery allowed him to enjoy his later years to the fullest. Jim was a wonderful father and a devoted husband, he will be missed and loved. Jim is survived by his three loving children, Anne Stallings McIntyre of Powell, OH; Jeffrey Harrison (Sally) Stallings of Harbor Springs, MI and James David (Heather) Stallings of Naples, FL; two cherished granddaughters, Elizabeth (Christopher) McDonald of Ft. Walton Beach, FL and Madison Craumer of Naples, FL; his dear cousin, Margaret “Peggy” Schmitt of Cold Spring, KY; and devoted friend, Ray Luna. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janet (née Jeffers); and his son, John. There will be no service at this time due to national health crisis and travel issues.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Cincinnati Library Foundation, foundation.cincinnatilibrary.org or the Metropolitan Opera, metopera.org (Support, Memorial Gifts).
