Joesph R. Baker Funeral Home was established in 1923. Mr. Baker started his business on Central Avenue in Middletown, Ohio and then moved to our present location on Manchester Avenue in 1927. He was well known for his love of baseball and his friendliness to everyone he met.
His son, Joe Baker, joined his father in the business full time after serving in World War II. He grew the business to what it is today.
In May 1990, Mr. Baker, wanting to retire, sold his funeral home to a long time friend, Dan M. Stevens. Mr. Stevens owned two other funeral homes, Thompson-Stevens in Mount Orab, Ohio and Kennedy-Stevens in Bethel, Ohio. These two locations were started by his father.
In January 1997, Dan Stevens sold his three locations to Carriage Services. Mr. Stevens continues to be involved with the funeral business by working with Carriage Services Corporate Division.
