Robert Larry Black, Jr., 77, of Monroe, Ohio, peacefully joined the church triumphant on September 18, 2017. He is remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather, who had a beautiful bass singing voice and a wonderful sense of humor evident in his telling of stories and jokes. He served his Lord faithfully throughout his life, and his devoted ministry impacted many lives. Larry was born to the late Bob and Maxine Black in Canyon, Texas on January 23, 1940. He graduated from Borger High School in Borger, Texas and continued his education at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas. Upon graduation from college, Larry served his country in the US Army, including a tour in Vietnam, reaching the rank of Captain. Upon discharge from the Army, he felt a calling to Christian ministry. He attended Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Austin, Texas and pastored in Louisiana and Texas for 33 years. Larry is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nedra; son Paul and his daughters Megan and Elizabeth; daughter and son-in-law Lydia and Doug Fuller and their children Kiah, Isabelle and Xander; sister and brother-in-law Julia and Glen Meier; brother Phil; and seven nieces and nephews. Larry is preceded in death by his brother, Joe, and his parents. A service of thanksgiving and celebration will be held Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Ohio Living Mount Pleasant chapel, 225 Britton Lane, Monroe, Ohio. A service will also be held in Abilene, Texas, where he and Nedra lived for 20 years, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4515 South 14th Street on Sunday, October 15, 2017 at 2:00 pm.
